CLUB MEETING -  29 May 2017

Trainee of the Year Award Presentation

President Trish welcomed the three finalist, their families, guest speaker, our DG, Rotarians and guests.
Following dinner, which is the last one we will have prepared by Bee & Steph as they are finishing at the Papakura Club this week, Sue Baker introduced our speaker Andrew Bayly.
Andrew spoke on the trip he made last year to the North Pole.   Even with modern technology the dangers and hardships of doing this are very real.
I know everyone had lots of questions for Andrew but due to time limitations they had to wait until after the awards presentation.
His next plan is to retrace Lawrence of Arabia's journey so he will be going from one extreme of temperature to another.
A very appropriate speaker for Trainee of the Year night showing how with hard work those goals that most would seem impossible can be achieved
Peter van der Gulik spoke on the history and purpose of the Trainee of the Year and the long involvement the Chenery Trust has had with the event.  It started in the year Ross Craig was DG.
Speeches were made by the three finalist outlining what they did and what their ambitions were.
Trainee of the Year from 2015, Alex, a trainee golf professional spoke on what winning the award had done to further his career.
DG Roger Harvey thanked Drury Rotary for hosting this event and announced the Trainee of the Year & winner of $1,500 was Logan van Jaarsveld.  Runners up were Will Kearney and Brett Parsons, both receiving $750.
Logan then gave a short acceptance speech.

  • We still need at least one more to assist at the Trees for Survival planting on Thursday 8th June at Waiau Pa.    Please contact Trevor if you can help.
  • RYLA Graduation Dinner will be held on Friday 7th July  - View invitation with full details here.
